Blade

Dogs have always played a major role in my life. I spent a childhood growing up with working gundogs mainly English Springer Spaniels and Labradors. When I met my husband our household consisted of ourselves a black whippet and a black Labrador that was Nigel`s pride and joy.

Due to a tragic accident we lost Ebony Nigel's Labrador and this left a void in our lives that we never thought could be filled.

On our sons birthday we travelled to purchase a pedigree rabbit, it was while we were there we saw our first Akita, Nigel having shown no signs of replacing Ebony even though two years had passed decided that an Akita might be the dog for him.

Six months later Calon came into our life. She is a sable and white American bitch, who was given the Welsh name for heart as she has given so much of it to us.

At this time we were completely unaware of the two very different types of Akita as any literature we came across only seemed to be relevant to the American type.

As time progressed we became aware of the two types and in our search for knowledge visited the only Akiho dog in the country.

When we saw this dog that had actually been imported from the breeds country of origin we realised how far from the original dog the breed had come. For us that was the turning point and we knew then where we wanted Tycon Akitas to go, back to the original (and for us) the true Japanese Akita.
